Childcare Center, Teddy’s Place Child Care, Sun Prairie WI

Our Mission

“Where Families Grow Together,” describes our philosophy of mixed-age classrooms where siblings can often stay together in the same classroom. All children have the opportunity to build self-confidence as “older brothers or sisters” to younger children. These experiences contribute to the growth of self-motivated, independent learners.

The Teddy’s Place Environment

Home is where the heart is. That’s why we try our best to create a home-like environment through the use of photos, toys, and furniture. More important to creating this environment is our consistent, nurturing staff.

The majority of the teachers have been with Teddy’s Place for 10+ years and hold various associate’s, bachelor’s, and master’s degrees. With no time-outs and a focus on positive communication, children learn to face challenges and react with optimism.

Positive Learning

Every child learns in different ways and at their own pace. By exploring a unit in as many ways as possible, we provide learning opportunities to suit each child’s unique needs. Units are often grouped together, so children understand there are many components to any topic.

Our Purpose

Our purpose is to nurture children in a safe, positive, family environment and help them learn through developmentally appropriate games and play.

We are lucky to have a large open field and fenced in playgrounds as well as spacious classrooms with lofts. These spaces help children develop the desire to explore and question the environment around them.

Storytime!

The year was 1984. Sharlot Bogart, this story’s main character, decided to establish a child care center of her own. You see, Sharlot had nearly thirty years of experience in early elementary education, special education, and group child care centers. Using this experience, she set off to start Teddy’s Place Child Care, a place where families grow together.

In the beginning, Teddy’s Place started with a preschool program for only eight children. As the word got out that Teddy’s Place was a fun and reliable place for parents to leave their children, excitement built around the town. Seven years later, in 1991, Teddy’s Place expanded to become a group child care center. Now, children ages 6 weeks to 12 years could attend this magical place where they can learn songs, play outside, and much more!

Fast forward to today, and Teddy’s Place has grown to 96 children and has since become an incorporated business. While we continue to grow, Teddy’s Place will always remain focused on the families of the community. Teddy’s Place Child Care has been, and will continue to be, a place where children can learn, grow, and have fun!

Meet Our Teachers

Sharlot Bogart, Director/Owner

Hi, my name is Sharlot. My brother, three sisters, and I grew up with my mother and father on a small farm and 140 acres of land in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. We grew up with every story at bedtime having a moral to it.

My father always stressed to us children that we had to leave things better than when we found them and that he hoped that when he died, he would leave this world a better place than when he came into it. This sounds glamorous, but I’m talking LIFE…. Cleaning our rooms, mucking out stalls, weeding the garden, whitewashing hen houses, picking up after playing at the neighbors, stuff that had been lying around since Lincoln was president! You get the picture.

My mother always reminded us to be honest and work hard because God was always watching over us. Talk about scary! I mean seriously, someone always watching over me? I had a lot to worry about with that one. All in all, we had a pretty wonderful life. We were allowed to play and explore every inch of our property after morning and before evening chores, and my mother never worried about our clothes getting dirty or holey.

My life was the epitome of learning through play!

I went on to college, married, had two wonderful daughters, traveled, and taught at several early care and education centers around the Midwest with my husband. After he passed away suddenly, I decided to settle down with my daughters in Sun Prairie.

I took in many teenage girls who needed a little help in life and was privileged enough to add one permanently to our family. Today the three of my daughters are grown and married, and I am lucky enough to have seven beautiful grandchildren.

My life experiences and stories have made me a visionary leader. I enjoy working hard, continuously learning new things to stay ahead of change or to make those changes to better our field, and strive to lead my team to be the best that we can be. Hopefully, we touch all of you; teachers, children, families, and community friends who come through our doors so that you feel better, smarter, and stronger when you leave our family. And hopefully, like my father, when I leave this field of work or life in general, I too will leave it a better place than when I came into it. God bless you all, and may someone always be watching over you!

Amy Ellis, Assistant Director

I have worked at Teddy’s Place for 25 years and have an associate’s degree in child care with the Administrator Credential. I have been working in the office for the past 14 years, but before that, I was an infant/toddler teacher and a preschool teacher.

Some of my job duties in the office include enrolling new families by giving them a tour and checking over paperwork before they start. I manage the children’s files to make sure that all contact information and health forms are up-to-date. I process all billing for accounts. I handle all new and current staff paperwork. I also help out in the classrooms, if needed.

I have two daughters. Brooklyn is a freshman at UW-Richland, and Breanne is a sophomore at Sun Prairie High School. We have a dog, a cat, and a fish who are all part of our family. I am the youngest of 10 children, my brothers, sisters, and their children all live close, so we spend lots of time together.

Ms. Emily, Head Teacher

Hello! My name is Ms. Emily, and I am a 4K teacher here at Teddy’s Place. I have been teaching 4K for the past nine years, and this will be my 5th year here. I graduated with my bachelor’s degree in early childhood education and sociology from Ripon College and with my master’s degree in special education from UW-Whitewater.

I grew up in Janesville and currently reside there with my husband and son. I enjoy spending time with my family, testing out new restaurants, and cooking new recipes. I coach volleyball throughout the school year and enjoy staying active and busy.

I look forward to every year of learning, fun, and adventures! I can’t wait to learn all about your child and family.

Sara Mileham, Head Teacher

I have been working at Teddy’s Place going on six years! I started out as an assistant teacher in my Junior year of High school in the school-age classroom, and then went on to be a lead teacher during my senior year!

Many of you have seen me in the office as I am in my transitional period into learning how to run the center and take over after I graduate from college with a degree in early childhood and special education!

I love my job and all my coworkers and am extremely excited for this opportunity! I immigrated to the United States when I was 5 years old, due to my Dad’s job! We are the only part of my family ever to leave the United Kingdom! I lived just outside the Bay area in California and Southern Kentucky before making Wisconsin my final home!

I love to travel all over the world and am very fortunate to have a brother that works for United Airlines that takes me to a whole range of new places! I also enjoy playing soccer, working out, building new furniture and home projects with my dad, and hanging out with my friends and my animals!

Brooklyn Ellis, Head Teacher

Hi, my name is Brooklyn Ellis, and I am one of the school-age head teachers. I have been working here at Teddy’s since I was 17 years old!

Currently, I go to MATC online and am studying to become a CMA, which is a nurse at clinics. I like working with the school-agers because I like seeing them grow and connect on a variety of different topics such as school, sports, music, Pokemon, and other activities!

In my free time, I like to watch crime and medical shows and have a good time with my mom (Amy Ellis) and my little sister (Breanne Ellis), who both work here!

Calie Vera, Head Teacher

Calie Vera, Teddy’s Place Child Care, Sun Prairie WI
My name is Calie Vera. I am a 4K teacher here.

I enjoy spending time with my family outside. I also like watching movies and online shopping! Baking and cooking with my kids are hobbies I enjoy.

Nohemi Acosta Calzada, Head Teacher

My name is Nohemi Acosta Calzada, and I was born in 1988 in Zacatecas, Mexico. I came to the United States when I was 6 years old. Leaving my home town and part of my family was the hardest thing I had to do at that young age.

My parents put me in school, and I had to learn a new language, which was not easy for me. When I took an early childhood development class in high school, I realized I wanted to work with kids — make them smile and watch them grow. I have been working with kids now for 11 years. I also teach kids Spanish!

I have two beautiful daughters, one is 6 years old, and I have a new 6-month-old baby, and I love both with all my heart. In my free time on the weekends, I love riding horses. I recently became a U.S. Citizen, and the process was easier than I thought!

Fatima De Faria

My name is Fatima De Faria; I was born in Venezuela, where you eat arepas, cachapas, and pabellon — where it is summer all year round, and there are beautiful beaches. I have European descendants (from Portugal), so since childhood, I was taught to love two very different countries with the same passion.

I arrived in the USA in 2017, and I am learning a lot of new things, like winter with snow.

I graduated from university in 2013 (graduated in initial education). I love my career, and since then, I have always worked with children. They, with their innocence and love, are able to teach you incredible things.

On weekends and free days, I like to go hiking with my husband and enjoy nature. One of my favorite places, especially in the summer, is the Devil’s lake.

Cozette Gialom

Hi, my name is Cozette Gialom! I am new to Teddy’s Place this year and have been truly enjoying teaching 4K. I love being a part of children’s first step on a long educational journey. Learning letters and numbers, gaining social problem-solving skills, and learning how to make friends, will set kids up for future success.

Most importantly, I love for kids to have fun at school! Building a positive attitude toward school begins now and will carry them throughout their education.

When I am not at school, I enjoy spending time with my family, watching my kids play soccer, and reading lots of books.

Michelle, Assistant Teacher

Hello, my name is Michelle. I started here at Teddy’s Place in the fall of 2019. I am an assistant teacher in the preschool classroom. I’ve taken early childhood development classes in high school and a few courses in early childhood education at Fresno Community College.

Working with kids has always been a passion of mine. I love seeing them grow and love putting a smile on their faces.

In the past, I’ve worked in elementary schools with different age groups, and I’ve also worked as a Hmong bilingual translator.

I am married to a wonderful husband and am a mother to four beautiful kids. I’m originally from California and moved here to Wisconsin 14 years ago after my husband and I got married. When I am not working, I love to spend time with my family. We love doing road trips, biking, going to local events, and enjoy being outside with nature.

Tiffany McMillan

My name is Tiffany McMillan, and I have been in child care for 15 years. I have worked with children in Germany, Georgia, Madison, and now here, in Sun Prairie. I love watching them learn and grow every day and getting to know all the wonderful families. Working with children is a true passion for me, and I enjoy it.

Heidi Stewart

I’m Heidi Stewart, and I work in Room 3! I have a degree in home economics education, child development, and family life and a minor in sociology.

I grew up in Whitewater, Wisconsin! When growing up, I only spoke German at home until my second grade teacher decided to tutor me in English! My family is the only part of our larger family to ever immigrate out of Germany, so all my extended family still live there! I have moved 41 times in my life and have taught in Colorado, Minnesota, and Wisconsin.

When I wasn’t teaching, I was an Activity Director in long term skilled healthcare, and as an Executive Director of Assisted Living Communities.

I have two adult sons; one is in Washington, D.C., and the other is in Madison. I have two grandchildren who live in Washington, D.C, and I travel there a few times a year to play with them! I spend my free time baking. I always try new recipes and am currently trying to perfect lemon curd and black pepper scones!

I have been semi-retired for a couple of years, only working part-time, but I love my connections with the children, so my retirement will include still working for Teddys Place.

Ms. Basia, Teacher Assistant

Hello, my name is Ms.Basia. I have been working in Teddy’s Place for over nine years as a 4k teacher assistant.

I was born and raised in Poland, where I finished college and earned a master’s degree in elementary and special education.

I have been married for 22 years, and we have a son and a daughter. My favorite things to relaxare home improvements, remodeling projects, and dark chocolate. I enjoy hiking, skiing, and traveling.

In my 16 years of experience in the educational field, I feel that my professional development helps me become a better teacher every day. I love coming to work every day and leaving feeling that I made a difference. Teddy’s Place made that possible with many opportunities and guidance.

Ms. Erica, Assistant Teacher

Hi There!
I am Ms. Erica! I’ve been at Teddy’s Place for 17 years. I worked as a school age teacher while I attended MATC and that’s where I earned my Associates degree in Early Childhood. I graduated MATC in 2006 and became a full-time preschool teacher. In the field of teaching I find that learning as an educator never stops. I was encouraged and received a scholarship to continue my education, so I have furthered my education through UW Milwaukee and have taken classes to go towards a Bachelor’s degree in Community Education. At Teddy’s place my strengths are environment set up, nurturing skills, and organizing. I would say my biggest strength is working for what I want and not being afraid to achieve more than one thing at a time. Besides being a teacher, I am a mother and a wife. I have been married for 13 years in which I met my husband here at Teddy’s; he was a teacher too. We have two children, McKenna and Marshall. The day I became a mom I felt my world was complete. My family loves enjoying the outdoors; swimming, fishing, parks, taking nightly walks, and camping.

Ms. Aamani, Lead Teacher

Hello! My name is Aamani. I was born and brought up in India. I migrated to states in 2012 after my marriage. I graduated my bachelor’s degree in computer science from India and really liked the school system while volunteering in a public school where it’s not just books and studies, but we can learn and explore different centers like art, music. So, I went for counselling for advice as to how to get the teaching license and I graduated my teaching license in Elementary Education from East Carolina University, North Carolina. It’s a great culture shock for me when I moved here from dressing to food where I am total vegetarian, lifestyle and many more. I learned a lot of new things when I moved to states starting from using vending machine to buy a piece of bun or soda, and the most funny thing was my pronunciation of some words when we go to restaurants for  which my husband corrected me  but we still keep laughing and it’s a sweet memory and choosing the kind of bread that I need for a subway, car driving where in India its right steering and here its left. I always feel like writing a book about my experiences when I moved here and I think it’s the same for everyone, we just keep learning each and every day through experiences throughout life. Me and my husband just moved to Wisconsin in 2020 from Virginia. I was a preschool teacher in Virginia and as well I worked at a preschool in North Carolina while pursuing my teaching license. I love working with kids and see them learn and also learn from them. I learned that every kid has their own learning style and learned to accept if they write the letters in reverse or the shape of pictures they draw and accommodate the lesson plans according to their needs and scaffold them in learning. We spend time hiking, biking whenever possible. In my free time, I watch movies in my language, “Telugu”, “Hindi” (India’s national language), as well English. I spend time watching, “Impractical Jokers” show and “Ellen DeGeneres” kid’s episodes I listen to music and love driving while singing loud and that’s how I practiced my firm voice with kids with a teacher’s advice. I learned classical dance, “Bharatanatyam” in childhood, and I still love to dance to music. I also practice my painting skills using acrylic and watercolors. I spend time hiking, biking, walking whenever possible with family. I look forward to meet new children and people and help them in learning while I learn.

Now that you’ve met our staff come by and say hi! We would love to meet you and your child. Give us a call or contact us today!
